Making strides towards the future of healthcare in Collingwood
Health care in South Georgian Bay has an amazing future vision and it has become a lot easier to imagine the possible with our newest updates on the Collingwood G&M Hospital’s (CGMH) re-development project!
Last Friday, our Hospital Board and Administration received positive news from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care’s (MOHLTC) Capital Branch. The MOHLTC has thoroughly reviewed the Hospital’s Stage 1A and 1B submissions for a Master Plan and Master Program for our future Hospital, and they have replied with their first set of comments.
“This is very encouraging news for CGMH, as we now have the opportunity to put the polishing touches on the Master Plan / Program and clarify any additional questions the Capital Branch has,” says Thom Patterson, CGMH Board Chair.
Moving forward, there will be a lot of action in the up-coming weeks. The Hospital, along with its Stage 1 Planning Consultants, will meet with the North Simcoe Muskoka Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) and the Capital Branch of the MOHLTC to address the first set of comments for consideration.
With this pre-planning work started, the Hospital can now aim to have an updated submission to the MOHLTC by early fall 2017. Although the Hospital was not on the list of others who received planning grants in the 2017 Capital Budget, the Ministry has reassured us that they are very supportive of the project moving forward.
“It is a very competitive process, with lots of hospitals vying for capital funds at the same time. We continue to gain momentum and have strong community support. We are on a very strong path forward, which will continue with the pre-work for Stage 2,” Hospital CEO, Guy Chartrand explains.
Jumping forward into planning, the Hospital is thrilled to continue road-mapping for its preferred Poplar Sideroad site option. Recently, the Hospital filed a formal application for pre-consulting with a request to meet with the Town of Collingwood, County of Simcoe and other approval authorities in the coming weeks to move ahead with planning.
Imagine the upcoming era of healthcare in our community – a new facility with world class equipment, the best of wellness practices and building standards. A Hospital designed for healing and with comfort for patient’s top of mind.
