Joan Emmans is a retired college professor and lawyer, who has lived in Collingwood since 2012 with her husband, Rudy Putns. She is active in the Probus by the Bay Club, where she was secretary for 3 years, and vice-president for 1 year.

Joan grew up in Montreal and attended Sir George Williams (now Concordia) University for her B.A. She worked as a computer programmer for several years, before going to Queen’s University for her law degree. She practised law for 13 years in general practice, then joined the faculty of Seneca College, where she taught paralegals and law clerks for many years and co-authored two legal texts for college students.

She enjoys many activities that Collingwood offers, including skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, biking, golf, Cinema club, and the Georgian Triangle Lifelong Learning Institute. Joan is also one of the founding members of the CGMH Giving Circle. She is looking forward to being a part of the CGMH Foundation Board, at an exciting time in the hospital’s history.
