24HR Blue Mountain raises 15k

The 24H Blue MTN relay event is planning to include a run/walk portion for 2024, and hopes to raise $250K for special olympics and the hospital foundation.

A 24-hour relay event that saw teams skiing and snowboarding on Blue Mountain from noon to noon last February also raised nearly $15,000 for the local hospital foundation.

The annual 24H Blue MTN event took place from Feb. 25 to 26 at Blue Mountain in support of both the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital Foundation and Special Olympics.

Inspired by the original event at Mont Tremblant, local resident and 24H Blue MTN co-organizer Michael Ney pitched the idea (several times) to Blue Mountain Resort. It’s been running for about five years with a hiatus during the pandemic.

During the event, teams of about 12 take turns on the downhill run, keeping a teammate on the hill for the full 24 hours of the event. In 2024, organizers will be adding a run/walk relay as an alternative to downhill skiing or snowboarding.

The goal for the 2024 event, which takes place Feb. 24 and 25, will be to raise $250,000 for the two local charities with sponsorships to cover the costs associated with the event.
