You have probably heard the news that there is a new Health & Wellness Village being proposed on Poplar Sideroad. The Poplar Regional Health & Wellness Village is described as a fully integrated, health and wellness community that would span 130 acres.
We have received many questions of concern about where that leaves the Hospital Development Project. Rest assured, we won’t be left behind.
The developers of the Poplar Regional Health & Wellness Village are working with the Town of Collingwood to appropriately zone the entire 130 acres. The 30 acres for a future hospital have been set aside by the developers as a placeholder and are integrated into their Health & Wellness Village proposal.
Right now, our focus is on Stage 2 of our Hospital Development planning and the decision for relocation ultimately rests with the Ministry of Health based on the conclusion of this study.
Stage 2 planning is critically important. Our planning consultants are developing requirements for projected staffing, department space, equipment, along with basic architectural plans, cost estimates and the community’s share of the total cost. You can learn more about the 5 stages of planning here.
Should the Ministry of Health determine that a greenfield build is the best option, the proposal before the Town Council for the Poplar Health & Wellness Village would ensure that the entire 130 acres would be rezoned to allow a mix of uses-including a new hospital-and other complimentary uses such as workforce housing and a variety of opportunities for knowledge-based employers.
