From Volunteer to Patient: Martha’s Story

As a volunteer at Collingwood General & Marine Hospital for almost 20 years, Martha Lawrence is proud to be part of the dedicated team that provides exceptional care to members of our community every day.

So when she unexpectedly found herself as a patient, she knew she’d receive the same high level of care that all patients have come to expect from the Hospital.

One Sunday morning, Martha was drying her hair when her arm suddenly started feeling really heavy. As a former nurse, she figured something wasn’t right and called for help.

Upon arrival at the hospital, Martha discovered she was experiencing atrial fibrillation – an irregular, rapid heartbeat that can increase your risk of stroke or heart failure.

But she knew she was in great hands, and thankful that she could receive life-saving care so close to home.

“The Hospital is truly world class in the care it provides, while maintaining the warmth and friendliness of a community hospital. That’s a rare thing these days.”

Martha wants to make sure our Hospital is there and ready when her family and friends need it – both now, and into the future. By leaving a bequest in her will to the Foundation, she’s leaving a legacy of exceptional care for generations to come.
