My Collingwood roots run deep, with our oldest grandson being the 7th generation to be born and raised in the area. Throughout my entire life, no matter where our careers took our family, Collingwood has always been home.
The Collingwood Hospital is truly a cornerstone of our community – the doctors, nurses, and staff all seem to understand that they are treating a person – a husband, a son or a granddaughter – someone who needs their help. It is donor dollars that enable our Hospital to care like this. The government provides the basics to keep the lights on, but it is donations from the community that help provide the excellent healthcare that CGMH is truly known for.
You’ve probably spent some time thinking about the footprint you’ll leave on this world when you’re departed from it, just like Larry and I have since we retired. Most of us think about our legacies and we think about family — perhaps our children and grandchildren. We also think of the contributions we’ve made in our work, our neighbourhoods and our communities.
We thought long and hard about how we could have a greater impact than annual donations. We considered how a gift in our will would leave a legacy for our children, 6 grandchildren and even future generations of our family.
We talked to our financial advisors who helped us decide that an insurance gift was the right method for us to leave a gift bigger than we had originally thought possible to the Hospital. Now that our gift is arranged, we can live the rest of our lives knowing that our love and light will shine long after we’re gone. And that, to us, is a very beautiful feeling.
